I sense a great disturbance in The Force
Hey gang. I know I haven't written much the past few weeks. Been filling in for my boss, who had heart surgery. I just don't have a lot of spare time right now. Plus, working at 4AM means I'm up at 2:30 AM, before some of you on the west coast are even asleep.
Sadly, I lost two subscribers this week. I dunno why. I found it an interesting coincidence to lose two places on my "followers" list after I put up a blog in favor of gay marriage. Maybe someone got their feelings hurt that I questioned religion, or that I had a viewpoint on a certain topic that wasn't conservative enough for them and sounded too Liberal.
I assure you, dear readers, that I am NOT a Lib. I just look at certain things from a differing viewpoint. I've become a bit worn out from constantly writing about politics, and have been seeking less mentally taxing topics to write about. Perhaps I've become boring now that I'm spending less time skewering the administration?
I take my readership seriously. I've tried really hard to provide something that's entertaining & fun to read, in addition to being thought-provoking. I love the fact that my obscure little corner of the universe has grown so much this year and that I'm now associated with so many top-notch fellow bloggers.
Fear not...I have some stuff I'll be writing about this weekend that should be what you've become used to...some people have been pissing me off and I'll unload in my usual fashion.
Peace.
Dude, post whatever you want. The reason we come here, or anywhere, is to find something that isn't already inside ourselves. I read novels because I can't write them. I watch movies because I can't see that stuff for myself.
ReplyDeleteDisclaimer: I'm not really anti-gay marriage myself, not really, I'm more anti-gay activist and judicial activist...so I may be biased. If you write a post talking about how beautiful Michelle Obama's arms are, I may stop coming hehe. Just kidding. (no seriously, don't do that...)
Keep on Keepin' on.
I'm with Candle. It's your blog and, while I am not pro-gay marriage (the reducto ad absurdum would be some guy getting hitched to his television set or his German Shepard), I respect your opinion.
ReplyDeleteBut, like Candle, if you start going all goo-goo over MO and I'm history.
By the way, lemme know how I can become a follower and I'll take one of those slots. Keep on trucking and best wishes to your boss for a speedy and complete recovery.
You are entitled to your opinion. A reader who thinks they are going to agree with you 100% of the time is a boob.
ReplyDeleteI'm with candle. I'm not pro-gay marriage, but I sure do enjoy hearing your POV. You'll make up those to followers in no time.
ReplyDeleteKeep writing when you can find the time and energy.
Dude, you can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can't please a lib.
ReplyDeletethe earring, flannel shirt(in the background) and way you wear your watch, all indicate to me you are a lib. protest all you want.
ReplyDeleteSteve... you just keep on keeping on, and don't worry about the rest of the bullshit.
ReplyDeleteIf people don't want to read what you have to say, that is their choice, and in my opinion it is their loss, because you are a very thoughtful writer - and entertaining too!
And remember, Thomas Jefferson once said "Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because if there be one he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear."
Thanks, guys. I value & appreciate your opinions, and I respect that in some issues, we may not always agree 100%.
ReplyDeleteI'm not so much kvetching about the fact that folks left, but that it was just odd timing. I don't want my subscribers to just expect me to be a mouthpiece for the Right, or that I'll be changing my belief system or the subjects I write about to pander to my readers. I still fully intend to do it my way, just as always. I also hope that none of you out there think that I'm just out trolling for followers. I just take it as a matter of writer's pride that I now have built up a growing base of folks who actually enjoy what I write. As I'm sure ya'll know, it's very validating to have folks comment on your work and to have folks decide to follow your blogs. I wrote for almost two years with almost no feedback or support, and now that I'm growing my site with everyone who clicks "follow", I hated to see it take a couple steps back.
Anyways...
Jeez, Jim...you've known me for what, 19 years? When have I EVER worn a flannel? That's my boss's shirt on the file cabinet. He wears it under his freezer suit; I wear a hoodie.
And yeah, that's BOTH ears pierced. I feel I've outgrown it, but the wife loves it, and I know what side of the bread my butter's on.
As for the watch, you seem to have forgotten that I have insanely small wrists, almost childlike, and almost any metal watch band is too big for me. My watch will simply turn itself around by gravity.
Some people are like old rubber bands: they seem to have it together, but when they have to stretch a bit they crack and break. There is not a thing you can do about it. Their loss.
ReplyDeleteI'm with everyone else, don't sweat the loss of two followers. I recently "came out" as having socially liberal views on abortion and gay marriage, and I expected to lose some peeps, too. I think I was spared because I write reeeeeeally long posts so few read them. Heh. That's the secret, just write War and Peace length posts and no one will know what you really think. *wink*
ReplyDeleteYour posts are great, keep doing what you do. Being yourself is what keeps people coming back (the ones you want coming back, anyway.).
You should never just follow any ideology blindly. That is part of the reason this country is as messed up as it is. If those people dropped as followers of yours, that is THEIR problem. If they can't handle the fact that you think for yourself, and don't just goosestep behind others, too damn bad.
ReplyDeleteKeep your insightful, thought provoking, and insanely funny postings coming. Without you, J Summ and I would never have joined the blogging world!
I support gay unions. However, I don't believe homosexuality is an acceptable altrnative lifestyle and I still believe it to be a sin.
ReplyDeleteI support gay unions because two people who have been together for ten years shouldn't have to lie and say they're brothers so they can visit each other in the hospital ICU.
I get accused of being a lib because of this, but I don't care. Non-married heteros visit each other in ICU all the freaking time, but gay couples have to lie.
Sin is sin is sin. A couple living in sin is still welcomed into the church and nurtured with the hopes of leading them to Christ, but a gay couple is told to leave. A Christian couple having premarital sex is just not discussed, but a Christian who is dealing with homosexuality is constantly barraged with "HOMOSEXUALITY IS AN ABOMINATION UNTO THE LORD!"
To that I reply, "For ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."
And ...
"Judge not, lest ye be judged. For the same measure you use shall be measured unto you."
And ...
"Do not worry about the speck in the eye of your brother until you have first removed the log from your own."
Need.
I.
Go.
On?!
...Handing the soap box back over to Steve...
BTW, love the picture!
I'm not a "follower" simply because I can't figure out how to make that thing work. I do read your blog almost daily. Haven't left, don't intend to.
ReplyDeleteOr didn't intend to, man you have a pierced ear? two of them? I'm outta here...
Seriously, though, I enjoy your blog and going no where.
Regarding gay marriage or unions so that a "couple" can visit in an ICU, there's no need to lie. According to HIPAA, you can name anyone as your caretaker. Doesn't have to be related.
