My 2 cents worth on women in combat

SGT Jennifer Peters of the 186th MP Company, training in 2008.

Much ballyhoo and controversy got stirred up like the proverbial hornet's nest last week when outgoing Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta announced that the Joint Chiefs of Staff was lifting the ban on women serving in combat roles in the military.

Within minutes of the announcement the Blogosphere and Twitterverse lit up like a bonfire with people throwing around opinion grenades based sometimes on nothing more than knee-jerk reactions, misogynistic and anachronistic thinking, and deep-seeded feelings on traditional gender roles.

Women in combat is nothing new, actually. One of the most celebrated figures in the histories of the British Isles was Boudica, the warrior queen of the Iceni Celts who led an uprising against the Romans. In WW2, some of the best Soviet snipers were women. Over in Israel women serve right alongside the men.

Panetta's move expands the Pentagon's action nearly a year ago to open about 14,500 combat positions to women, nearly all of them in the Army. This decision could open more than 230,000 jobs, many in Army and Marine infantry units, to women. Now, this isn’t going to happen overnight. The Pentagon & the various services still have to figure out which jobs and when they will open to women, and whether or not those slots really will include Special Operations jobs in units like the Navy’s SEALs or even Delta Force counter-terror units.

I speak from the experiences of having been a soldier and having served alongside of (and been commanded by) women. No, I was not an infantry soldier living in a foxhole for days on end. I was not cooped up inside the hull of a tank or 300 feet under the sea in a submarine. Male veterans and current servicemembers in such roles have bemoaned long & loud about women either not being able to do their strenuous and stressful jobs or complicating matters a thousandfold should they join their units.

No, I was a military police soldier. From Day One of my basic training and segue into MP school, my training was fully integrated. My 200-troop training company had 3 platoons of male recruits and one platoon of females. The basic reasoning, as I fathomed it, was that the Army wanted us male troops to see first-hand that the women were receiving the exact same police and combat training that we were, from the same instructors in the same classrooms and on the same field ranges. That way, if and when we got paired up with female patrol partners or fire-team members in a real-world environment, we knew they had the same training we did and could back us up just the same as a male troop. While on active duty I worked side by side with many women MP soldiers, and in my last unit not only was my assistant squad leader a women, but so was my final company commander. Some people might think of MP's as non-combat troops, but they would be very, very wrong.

Ladies & gentlemen, we need to stop thinking of war as a front-lines and rear-area thing. We tend to maintain that World War Two mentality of a linear battlefield with a distinct Forward Edge of the Battle Area, a front line of foxholes and trenches and infantry units trading rifle fire and bayonet charges with their opposite numbers, side by side with tanks in support, and the supply and medical and artillery units miles behind the lines, and other support units even farther back "in the rear with the gear". Today's battle zone is just that, an entire zone where you could be shot at or blown up from every possible angle by people in or out of a uniform. When you're fighting an enemy with a mentality that more often than not treats their own women as not much more than housepets, they don't bat an eye when it comes to killing a female soldier.

And whether it's from a bullet in a direct firefight, from an IED explosion, or from getting shot down, dead is still dead at the hands of the enemy.

If you don't think women are already actively serving in combat roles in the combat zone, you're sadly mistaken. If you think women haven't fought alongside men in our current combat actions, tell that to Crystal Davis, a track mechanic and vehicle recovery specialist with the 54th Engineer Company, who lost a leg when an Iraqi IED blew up her up-armored wrecker in 2006.

Crystal Davis

Tell it to Sue Downes of the 554th MP Company, who lost both legs when an IED blew up the vehicle she was in while on a humanitarian mission to deliver food to a remote Afghan village in 2006.

Sue Downes
Tell it to Danielle Greene-Byrd, a basketball star and 1999 graduate of Notre Dame, who spent two years as a teacher before enlisting. In 2004, with the 571st MP Company, she was hit by an RPG while returning fire from a rooftop of an Iraqi police station . Immediatly her heart sank thinking about her lost wedding rings (she just got married two weeks earlier while on a brief visit home). Her comrades returned to the rooftop where she was hit to find her severed hand buried under several inches of sand. They later slipped her recovered wedding rings onto her remaining right hand.

Tell it to Lieutenant Colonel Tammy Duckworth, who lost her legs when the Blackhawk she was piloting was downed by an RPG on November 12, 2004. In case you've been living under a rock, Tammy Duckworth is also a Democrat member of the United States Congress from Illinois.

Tammy Duckworth. I may not agree with her politics but we both bleed Army green.

If you think women haven't fought alongside men in our current combat actions, tell that to the family of SGT Donna Johnson of the 514th MP Company, killed by a suicide bomber who rammed a motorcycle packed with explosives into her joint U.S.-Afghan patrol in Khost, Afghanistan on October 1st, 2012.

Donna Johnson. Yes, that's a combat action badge on her uniform, because she'd been in COMBAT.
Tell it to the family of Kimberly Hampton , the company commander of D troop 1/17th Cavalry. Hampton died when the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter she was flying was shot down near Fallujah, Iraq on January 2, 2004. Captain Hampton was the first female military pilot in United States history to be shot down and killed as a result of hostile fire.

Tell it to the family of Nichole M. Frye, of Company A, 415th Civil Affairs Battalion, killed when an IED hit her vehicle in a convoy in Baqubah, Iraq on February 6, 2004.

Tell it to the family of Holly J. McGeogh, a mechanic with Company A, 4th Forward Support Battalion, killed when an IED hit her vehicle on January 31, 2004 outside Kirkuk, Iraq.

Tell it to the family of CW5 Sharon T. Swartworth, a 26-year veteran on one last mission for the Pentagon headquarters of the Judge Advocate General Office, killed when the helicopter she was in was shot down on November 7, 2003 near Tikrit, Iraq.

Tell it to the family of Karina S. Lau, a communications specialist with the 16th Signal Battalion, killed on November 2, 2003 when the helicopter she was in was shot down near Fallujah, Iraq. Also on that helicopter was Frances M. Vega, a personnel specialist with the 151st Adjutant General Postal Detachment 3, so tell it to her family too.

Tell it to the family of Analaura Esparza Gutierrez, of A Company, 4th Forward Support Battalion, killed on October 1,2003 when an IED hit the vehicle she was in near Tikrit, Iraq.

Women comprise about 14 percent of the 1.4 million active military personnel. More than 280,000 women have been sent to Iraq, Afghanistan or to jobs in neighboring nations in support of the wars. Of the more than 6,600 U.S. service members who have been killed, 152 have been women.

Women have been seeing combat action for a long time now. Back in December of 1989, Captain Linda Bray, commanding officer of the 988th MP Company became the first woman to lead U.S. troops in battle when she engaged in a firefight with an elite Panamanian Special Forces unit inside a military barracks and dog kennel. Bray and 45 soldiers under her command, nearly all of them men, got into an extended three-hour infantry-style firefight. Her troops killed three of the enemy and took one prisoner before the rest were forced to flee, leaving behind a cache of grenades, assault rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition. The Americans suffered no casualties.

On the modern battlefield, women are often right there in the mix, and in many cases are out on patrols with the same infantry soldiers who claim they shouldn't be in combat or can't hack it in combat units. For those who doubt that women can hack it, I'd like to point them in the direction of Monica Lin Brown, a combat medic who earned a Silver Star, our nation's third highest award for valor, presented by Vice President Dick Cheney. After a roadside bomb detonated near a convoy of Humvees in the eastern Paktia Province of Afghanistan, Brown saved the lives of fellow soldiers in April 2007 by running through insurgent gunfire using her body to shield wounded soldiers while mortar rounds fell nearby and ammunition in the vehicles exploded all around her. At the time of her combat action, Monica was still about 6 weeks shy of her 19th birthday. She was born on May 24th, 1988, which was 4 days shy of my 19th birthday and 6 days after I graduated from Military Police School.

For those who don't think women can hang on patrol, tell that to Army Reserve Captain Katherine Jenerette, a friend of mine I met through Facebook when she was running for Congress. A veteran of the first Gulf War in 1991, Katherine has more parachute jumps than most men I know. Her husband is a retired Major and one of her four kids is also a soldier. Her dad was career military. It runs in the family, of that we can be certain. As a Civil Affairs officer in Afghanistan, Katherine went out on patrol with infantry units of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team on her deployment last year in the Panjawi District of Kandahar Province.

CNN recently profiled another Civil Affairs soldier, Kimberly Bratic, who went on 70 missions in Afghanistan with the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Read her story here.

Look, I've heard the arguments against women serving in combat roles. I've heard the argument about whether a petite 120-pound girl loaded down with 70 pounds of gear will be able to carry a 200-pound wounded male soldier to safety. When I enlisted, I showed up to basic training barely 140 pounds and not much over five feet eight. Would I have been able to drag a dude that size to safety? Maybe, maybe not. I probably would have gotten a second body to help, or just sucked it up and done the mission. I was asked today whether I thought a woman would be able to hoist up and slam a round into the breech of the main gun on an M-1 Abrams tank. I think so. A 120mm tank round weighs 19kg, or just about 42 pounds.

Infantry grunts under fire are always happy to look up and see an Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt overhead raining death & destruction on the bad guys. In many cases, those pilots saving their infantry asses are women. And that, friends, is combat.

Kim Campbell surveys the damage to her A-10 after a mission in Iraq in 2003 that earned her a Distinguished Flying Cross.

Yeah, yeah, women could end up pregnant. It happens. It happens in non-combat units too. You hope that your troops are responsible and mature and professional enough to keep it in their pants but...You put young, physically active people in close proximity to each other with little outlet for recreation, and invariably and inevitably people get naked. It happens in college. It happens in high school.

Should all military jobs be open to women? I'm not 100% sure actually. Despite my Army service, I have had close ties with the Navy submarine community most of my life. I am not exactly in favor of women crewmembers on subs. It's not that I think they couldn't perform the tasks of being a submariner, not at all. I'm thinking of the logistics involved in taking a small, cramped steel tube where sleeping space and toilet space is already microscopic and then having to divide that up even more to accommodate separate but equal facilities for female crew. I've been on a couple of Los Angeles-class subs and it was less than spacious in there. However, it seems that the women who have opted for submarine service are adjusting well.

Like I said, I served right alongside women for my entire enlistment and found them by and large to be just as competent as male soldiers. I knew good female troops and bad, good male troops and bad. Time will tell if integrating combat units will work or is even a good idea. Remember; 60-some odd years ago people tried to argue against integrating black soldiers into regular Army units too. It took some time to work out the kinks but in the end it worked out for the good of everyone involved.

Command Sergeant Major Angi Gordon. We served together in the same unit as E-4s and she went on to achieve the Army's highest enlisted rank before retiring. The MP community in the Army is pretty small and you have to be in the highest percentiles of soldiering to make E-9 in our field.

Angi on deployment in Afghanistan. The guy on the right in the picture is Master Sergeant Stan Smith. Stan was my neighbor at Fort Riley when we were both E-4's.

A senior military official said the military chiefs must report back to Panetta with their initial implementation plans by May 15. Stay tuned for updates.

Beware the dreaded Assault Finger

Ban the Assault Finger
Way back when I was but a wee pup, as the Earth was cooling and dinosaurs roamed the lands, I lived in Maryland. I was born in DC and spent my first 14 years in a suburb called Langley Park, part of the bigger suburb of Silver Spring. I spent my elementary and middle school years as a brick in the wall in the Prince Georges County public schools. Looking at back at the Cesspool of Liberalism that Maryland has become (or maybe it always was and as a kid I just never knew it) I'm glad I got out of there when I did.

Within the past month, three Maryland kids, a six year old boy attending Roscoe Nix Elementary in good old Silver Spring, and two six year old boys attending Talbot County Elementary, were SUSPENDED from school for (GASP!) making a finger-gun gesture. The insanity doesn't stop in Maryland either, nor is it confined to liberal wastelands. Over in the decidedly red state of Oklahoma, a five year old boy was suspended from Chickasha Elementary for brandishing his finger and saying "Bang, Bang".

When will we finally ban assault fingers?

And in perhaps the most insane episode I have seen in quite a while, a five year old girl was suspended, initially for ten days but reduced to two, over saying she was going to shoot other kids and herself with BUBBLES from a Hello Kitty bubble gun.

The Taliban issues these

Digest that a minute.

The lunatics of the Mt. Carmel, PA school system characterized the incident as a "terroristic threat" and labeled the little girl's action as a "threat to harm others"... Seriously...They interrogated the child for hours without her parents present, according to the family's lawyer, and the girl was forced to undergo psychological testing by an independent practitioner before they would allow her back into school, with the incident being added to her permanent record.

I've seen Parkinson's patients with less of a knee-jerk than this.

When I was a kid, I actually never needed to make finger-gun gestures. We had toy guns instead. I had an arsenal of them. I never wanted the cowboy six-shooters; I never played Cowboys & Indians or Cops & Robbers. No, I had a replica Luger cap gun and a pretty realistic M-1A1 Thompson sub machine gun (the WW2 Army version of the Tommy Gun). The Thompson replaced a series of bolt-action toy drill rifles based on the old 1903 Springfield that almost every male child born before 1980 played with.
The Luger cap gun I took from a captured SS officer in my back yard

The Thompson M-1A1
I had a dozen of these, I swear.

Nope, no cowboys or cops for me; I was a pint sized SGT Rock. I liberated my neighborhood from the Nazi scourge before bedtime.

Strange, I don't recall me or any of my childhood friends growing up to be psychotic adults who mow down kids and shoot up shopping malls, and we did far more than make simple finger gestures.

By this new Liberal Assault Finger Logic, if you flip someone the bird you'll be arrested for rape.

Headed for a life of crime...

Something new to read

Who's got your back? I do.

When I first started this blog I struggled for a long time to find my niche, not so much my voice but more rather what exactly the focus of my writing would be about. As you well know by now most of my writing is Conservative Politics and commentary on The Stupid People of the World but I often stray off the map and venture into music and culture.

Back in the olden days when I was in that struggle phase, I made a somewhat weak attempt to start what I had hoped would be a regular feature on the site, that of me doling out helpful advice to guys on how to look decent without spending a lot of money, and just general handy tips on getting by in today's hectic world.

It failed. I don't think either article I posted ever really got read, and was certainly never commented upon by anyone. Ergo, the idea died almost in utero.

Fast forward six years and I've exhumed the body, hooked up the electrodes, and resurrected the zombie.

Yes, indeed, ever the glutton for punishment, I have started a second blog site to regale you with my wit and wisdom. I am your Virtual Wingman. Who's got your back? I do.

The new page is called The Savvy Guyde, a guy's guide to being savvy without the overbearing condescension of most advice pages, without the hefty price tags associated with most lifestyle publications, and without the overglossed underfed pretty-boy fashion rag attitude.

I'll be covering a lot of topics in upcoming articles like tips on shaving, especially shaving your head bald without shredding your scalp, how to pack a Go Kit for you single guys out there (hey, I was single once too), the tricky subject of The Man Purse, proper accessories for your wardrobe, and even the occasional recipe for guys who can burn water. Trust me, I have a single buddy my age in Florida who laments almost daily his inability to do anything in the kitchen besides bake a boneless chicken breast. I'm no James Beard Award chef, but I'm pretty handy in the kitchen.

By no means does this signal the death of Global Domination Through Applied Inactivity. I've spent six-plus years building this place up to almost 700,000 hits and a couple hundred readers. I'm not gonna drop that modicum of success just to work this new project. This just means I have to work twice as hard as before.

So, please wander on over and take a gander at the new page. Feel free to follow it too. Love me and make me famous.

Teacher loses job over porn past...

Sometimes things fall into weird gray areas between black & white, even when it comes to morality.

As a kid, it’s hard to imagine your teachers having a life outside of school, a life where they do things that everyone else does as a grownup. People who aren’t friends with or related to teachers can carry that sheltered notion well into adulthood too. I know better. I was once married to a teacher. I’ve known many teachers and been drunk under the table by more than a few. Teachers are normal everyday human beings.

Certainly, we have a high expectation of the people who teach our children to be of decent moral fiber and above reproach, but after all, they are but fallible human beings. That said, I’m torn over the case of Stacie Halas, a middle school teacher from Oxnard, California.

Halas was fired in April of last year from her job as a science teacher at Haydock Intermediate School in Oxnard after pornographic videos of her were discovered online by students and teachers. On Tuesday, Halas lost her appeal to return to the classroom after a 3-judge panel ruled her unfit for the classroom.
"Although (Halas') pornography career has concluded, the ongoing availability of her pornographic materials on the Internet will continue to impede her from being an effective teacher and respected colleague," Judge Julie Cabos-Owen wrote in a 46-page decision issued Friday by the Commission on Professional Competence. Halas was continually deceitful about her nine-month career in the adult video industry before she went to work at the school, the decision said.

Halas has been on administrative leave since a video surfaced in March. Student claims that the teacher was moonlighting as a porn star were initially dismissed after school officials said that they couldn't find any images of her on the Internet, but they were using the school's computers, which don't allow access to adult content. Teachers then showed administrators downloads of Halas' sex videos from their smartphones.
Her lawyer, Richard Schwab, said Halas had tried to be honest but was embarrassed by her previous experience in adult videos. Schwab has said Halas did not star in pornographic movies while teaching in any district. He said that she took parts only during an eight-month period from 2005 to 2006 because of financial problems after her boyfriend abandoned her.

District superintendent Jeff Chancer applauded the commission's ruling. Halas' decision to "engage in pornography was incompatible with her responsibilities as a role model for students and would present an insurmountable, recurring disruption to our schools should she be allowed to remain as a teacher," Chancer said in a statement.
Now, here’s where I have some problems with things. Miss Halas was fired for doing something from BEFORE she became a teacher. This is contrary to what Chancer said in his release. Halas was not doing porn while working as a teacher. She was engaged in a legal activity, as California is the capital of the porn industry. She was not engaged in something illegal like prostitution on the street corners or in the drug trade. Illicit, yes; illegal, no.

Hell, we’ve made Kim Kardashian into a multi-millionaire for making a sex tape and treat her like royalty.

Halas is not a pedophile. She’s not a murderer. She’s not a thief.

She wasn’t screwing students or faculty members or parents, like some teachers I’ve seen in the news. She wasn’t knocked up by a student like teachers I’ve seen in the news. They’ve made feel-good TV movies on Lifetime about girls who were strippers in college to make ends meet who went on to be pillars of the community. Yeah, this is a bit more than stripping, but it’s along that same tangent.

Much fuss is being made over the fact that after extensive digging through the internet old footage of Halas was able to be found, but no one is making any noise about the kids who found it in the first place, or that when her fellow teachers caught wind of it, their first instinct was to use SCHOOL COMPUTERS to look for porn to find her and then had to resort to surfing with their phones to bypass the porn blocks.

It’s hard enough to find qualified people dedicated to the profession of education without turning them away for a legal activity they engaged in briefly before they went into teaching. Like I said, I’ve known plenty of teachers, and even firemen & cops, with pasts so checkered they’d look like a tablecloth at a picnic.

I say let her teach again, just in a different district.

Did you know that porn icon Ron Jeremy earned a bachelor's degree in education and theater and a master's degree in special education from Queens College in New York. He taught special-education classes in the New York City area and was a substitute teacher for regular classes before changing careers…

You're only a racist if you're white...

(This is not the original article I wrote. Due to a glitch in saving the draft I had written, I lost 98% of what was written and I had to hastily try to remember what was done to that point. Sorry ‘bout that, gang)

Seemingly, there's no such thing anymore as Reverse Racism or Reverse Discrimination, because racism only applies if you're white. By default, if you’re white and disagree with Obama and the Left, you’re just automatically a racist. Black America can say or do whatever it wants with no fear of recrimination or penalty because the race card gets played, White Oppression and White Guilt gets tossed into it, and then the media will just gloss it over & giggle about it, if they even bother to say anything at all about it. In the case of Jamie Foxx, they just call it comedy and say we’re all taking it too seriously.

Jamie Foxx has many talents. He’s funny. He sings. He acts. And now he can add race-baiter to his resume it would seem.

A few weeks back the Soul Train Awards were broadcast on BET. Black Entertainment Television isn’t racist, mind you, but if there was White Entertainment Television there’d be hell to pay until the FCC forced them into the grave. At these awards, Jamie Foxx proclaimed, “"It's like church over here. It's like church in here. First of all, give an honor to God and our Lord and Savior Barack Obama", stopping just shy of adding “Blessed Be His Name” after invoking the name of the Obamessiah. Of course, as expected, this was met with thunderous applause.

Last week Foxx hosted Saturday Night Live and in his opening monologue explained that in his new film “Django Unchained”, he gets to kill all the white people. How quaint. Foxx further went on with a monologue all about Blackness and Obama. An excerpt:

“But I'm going to tell you right now, speaking of blackness, my President, President Obama is back up in the White House four more years. How black is that? And not only that, he’s so black, he was playing basketball during the Election Day. How black is that? But he was also late for his acceptance speech. Okay, all the white people, this is your turn - how black is that? But he going to be extra black this next four years. He going to get everything black, and white people, don't get nervous about that because he is mixed. Now the first four years was the white side of him, because I don't know if you saw him on Ellen when he was dancing and everything. I don't know what this is. That wasn't President Obama, that was President Barry Gibb Obama. But the next four years he's even changing his name from to President Barack Dikembe Mutombo Tupac Mandela Hussein Obama X. How black is that?”

Can you imagine the firestorm if a white actor joked about killing all the black people in a new film he was starring in? That would be the end of his career, unless he released some sort of contrite statement about saying he was in a bad place mentally and was seeking rehab. By contrast, for Foxx, this will probably win him another Oscar. Oh, yeah, before I forget, Foxx also was heard recently to be complaining about the level of violence in movies these days and how it can affect kids, yet no one saw him hand back his multi-million dollar paycheck to Quentin Tarantino for making a tremendously violent flick. Hypocrite.

Again, it’s only racist if you’re white. Or, really, if you just disagree with Obama and the Democrat Party’s policies.

But what about black Conservatives? Or women? As far as the Left’s agenda is concerned, black Conservatives are portrayed as Uncle Tom lackeys doing the bidding of Da White Debbil, and Conservative women are portrayed as too scared and brainwashed to be liberated free women.

I’d like to note the irony of the fact that in the Democrat-controlled US Senate, there is but one black Senator. Not only is he a Republican, but he’s from a state the Left always decries as a racist backwater, appointed to the Senate by a female Republican Governor whose parents emigrated to America from India. Senator Tim Scott, of South Carolina, is my Senator, and I couldn’t be prouder.

Yours truly with Tim Scott. I'm such a racist.

However, the NAACP isn’t exactly proud of him. Instead of embracing Tim Scott, it portrays him as a token who knows nothing about civil rights because, well, he's a Republican — unlike, say, Democrats who opposed the Civil Rights Act. They make their claim on Scott receiving an "F" on an NAACP scorecard of issues, many of which appear to have nothing to do with racial matters or civil rights. Item No. 3, for instance, concerns banning the EPA from regulating greenhouse gas emissions.

Tim is the first black senator from the South since Reconstruction and the first black GOP senator since 1979, when Edward W. Brooke of Massachusetts retired. Indeed, Scott is only the seventh black Senator ever to serve in the chamber, and rather than hold Tim up as an example of success, we have the sad spectacle of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People slandering a black man who has advanced to the United States Senate. We are asked to believe that Scott, a black man who was raised by an indigent single mother in the deep South, knows nothing about the struggles for civil rights or racial equality.

The NAACP was also making noise here in the greater Charleston area this past week after the Mayor of the city of North Charleston said he was freeing up funding to ensure that the could hire more police officers in order to have a cop at every elementary school in the city in light of the tragedy in Connecticut. The move has sparked fierce debate, especially in the black community.

A community meeting/media circus was quickly thrown together, organized by Citizens United for Public Schools, whose leaders include Charleston NAACP President Dot Scott (no relation to Tim) Speakers said they were worried that more police officers in schools would lead to more children, especially black students, being arrested instead of properly disciplined. Of course it would, because the automatic implication is that the cops will only target black kids, because all cops are racist.

We are indirectly taking steps that criminalize childhood,” said Susan Dunn, general counsel for the local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. “Don’t expect the police to come in and rescue us.” (Take that with a grain of salt. It’s the Snivel Liberties Union Comedy Sideshow)

Ms. Scott says that if schools want zero tolerance for guns, that tolerance should transfer to the police as well. "If you're going to bring the officers in with guns, zero tolerance is zero tolerance. It's the belief of the people here that more guns may not be the answer," she said.

Let that sink in a sec. The idea is for an armed officer to be present as a deterrent to some whackadoodle meandering into a local school and causing grevious bodily harm to the most vulnerable of our population, defenseless little kids, and you want to disarm the person safeguarding the kids because of the no gun policies…. ARE YOU INSANE? The policy is there to keep KIDS from bringing guns to school.

She continued with, “An increased police presence may aggravate the situation in some schools and make our schools look and operate more like detention facilities than like places of learning.”

Lady, if the school is so effed-up that a cop out front will aggravate the situation, then maybe it SHOULD operate like a detention facility because the inmates have taken over the asylum.

And of course, those evil racist cops are to blame, as they took issue with the North Charleston police, citing a history of racial profiling and a past of “violent and abusive behavior.” And saying that there could be problems with the police and parents who have had run-ins with them.

“The chance of parents being ‘profiled’ simply for going to their children’s schools is frighteningly possible,” Scott said.

Sweet God. You’re claiming that a parent coming to a school on legitimate school and parental business is going to be racially profiled and harassed. Your unspoken implication is that the city is a Gestapo-run police state and that residents scurry about in fear from building to building in fear of being caught without travel papers or their yellow Star of David.

I would find this farce comical if not for the fact that people out there will actually believe this lunacy.
